"Separated at Birth?" Once Again

My sister's birthday is Monday, December 4th, so I'll be giving her her birthday present when I see her on Sunday (the same day this article posts). She's a big fan of TV's The West Wing, so she'll be receiving the boxed set of the complete series on DVD, as pictured above. As it happens, my friend John has the same set, so the last time I visited him, I asked if I could look at the contents of the box so I'd have an idea of what my sister would be getting.

One of the things that caught my eye was a photo of actress Janel Moloney (pictured below), who portrayed the character of Donna Moss. I wasn't thinking that the photo I was looking at was more than ten years old. I only looked at John and said, "Is this who I think it is?" I showed him the picture.

"Who do you think it is?" he asked.

"Isn't this Karen?" By "Karen," I meant Deborah Ann Woll (pictured below), the actress who plays the character of Karen Page on three Netflix series:  Daredevil, The Defenders, and The Punisher.

Well, as becomes obvious when you have photos of both actresses in front of you, they're not the same person. And, like most people that prompt you to say "Hey, he/she looks exactly like so-and-so!" they don't look exactly alike.

But for a brief moment, I sure was fooled.

Thanks for your time.

  1. Yeah when you look at them side by side they don't look alike that much, but a quick glance and I can see it.

    1. Right. Quite often people who resemble each other slightly don't look so much alike under closer scrutiny.

  2. They could almost be the Doublemint twins.

    Love,

    1. When I was sixteen and working at my very first job, I knew a middle-aged guy who would sing "Double your pleasure, double your fun, two girls are always better than one."

    2. Haha, but it could get you in double trouble...

    3. I actually did take two women on one date, long ago... but it was only to a restaurant, nothing sleazy (or athletically challenging) later.

  3. A fairly good series. My hubby and I watched it. Donna was a favorite character, for sure.

    1. My sister absolutely freaked when I gave her the DVD set. She always appreciates gifts, but I don't think she's ever been quite that enthusiastic about anything I've given her before.

  4. You certainly have an eye for finding doubles. It sounds like your sister truly appreciated your effort :)

    1. Several years ago, I was working in a cable company office a couple of towns away from where I live. A woman came into the office, and while she was dealing with my co-worker, Kathy, I noticed she was glaring at me. After she left, Kathy told me that the woman had whispered to her that I was a horrible, evil man! It seems there was a man in that town whom I very closely resembled, and the woman had assumed that I was he. Kathy said she was able to convince the lady that I was not the man she thought I was.

    2. Ah, yes! Now I remember that from a post of a few months ago. Always a good thing when it gets sorted out for the best.

  6. Also, since I have white hair and a beard, people constantly tell me I look just like Santa Claus, which I absolutely hate. I am sometimes told that I look "exactly" like him. I respond by asking how I can possibly look exactly like someone who doesn't even exist. It's not like they've seen a photo of the "real" one somewhere, right?

Quite often, when I tell someone I hate being called Santa Claus or being told that I look like him, instead of respecting my feelings and apologizing, they try to change my mind and convince me that I should be complimented, that everybody loves Santa, etc. That's when I really start getting pissed off.

    1. Don't you love it when people question whether you actually know how you feel about something?

    2. What it boils down to is that people suck. Most of them, anyway.

  7. Not familiar with either of the ladies, so looked quite different to my 'clueless' eye :) Glad to hear your sister enjoyed her day. A full white beard to me would make you look more like Tagore :) the famous poet from my part of the world. He sported a fairly bushy specimen.

Request please proceed with the idea of post on Tar and Cement - I for one would love to read.

    Have the loveliest week.

    1. Just did a quick image search for Tagore. Wow, quite the beard! I never let mine get really long like that, though. In fact, I usually get it trimmed this time of year so it's rather short, in hopes that people won't be as inclined to call me Santa.

I spent the earlier part of today compiling a handful of images for the hopefully-upcoming "Tar and Cement" post.
