This month I'm participating in the A-Z Challenge.
(For more information, click here.) My theme is Anger
MISmanagement. I'll be posting almost every day in April, skipping only
Sundays. Let's see how I do!
Today's letter is B.
B stands for BALLISTIC.
Ballistic's true, original definition is “of or relating to ballistics or to a body in motion according to the laws of ballistics.” Not sure
when it was also made into a slang word for going absolutely overboard when reacting
angrily toward something. Not sure it matters, either. If you're in the path of
someone who's going ballistic, who the hell cares about etymology? Get out of
his (or her) way!
Thanks for your time.
Yes. Funny how it evolves. Like going postal. Still best advice is like you said, just get out of the way.
ReplyDeleteBrandon Ax: Writer's Storm
I almost used the "going postal" phrase when I wrote this!
DeleteYep, get the heck out of the way and maybe carry a bat for safety
ReplyDeleteWasn't it Teddy Roosevelt who said "Speak softly and carry a big stick?"
DeleteYes.
DeleteThought so.
DeleteBeing in the way of someone like this is never good. Interesting theme for the Challenge, and one I'm especially interested in right now. I'll be back!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll be waiting! Ha.
DeleteA bombastic belated beginning becomes ballistic, baby. Boom!
ReplyDeleteBeatutiful.
DeleteLooking forward to seeing the rest of your A to Z challenge. As I get older I find things make me grumble now that wouldn't have bothered me in my youth...I may relate to quite a few. Good luck with it.
ReplyDeleteYou're really gonna relate to C...
DeleteBallsy.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Fox this is the most timely post ever. Someone just went ballistic over something that directly affects me. Threats were made. But I believe the situation has calmed - at least I hope so. I don't like the ballistic person very much. He's always angry. It's the way he deals with life and with everyone. I try to avoid him. It's difficult for me to remember that he's probably feeling very inadequate. I just have to keep it in mind that his explosions are not personal to me … they are only personal to him. Still,..it's unpleasant. Unlike seeing you again. Always pleasant for me. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, sorry I hit such a serious note for you. But it's great to see you again!
DeleteGetting out of the way is the best advice for dealing with me...I mean someone going ballistic lol
ReplyDeleteRight. Someone else. Gotcha.
DeleteHow did I miss this yesterday?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what that word means. I have never gone ballistic. If my children tell you I have, well, they're wrong. And grounded.
