ANITA LYNCH, 1917-2009, R.I.P.

My mother passed away early this morning at the age of 92, in her sleep.

She'd been through an awful lot lately, medically speaking, and was just tired of it all.

I visited with her on Friday afternoon. My sister Kathy saw her in the early evening. One of the last things my Mom said to Kathy was "Tell David I can't go on like this." So she knew her hours were numbered, I think, and wasn't bothered in the least. On the contrary, based on some other things she'd said lately, I'm pretty sure she welcomed it.

Sometime when time permits, I'll probably write a much longer post about her. Right now, all I want to add is that my mother was quite impressed by the birthday wishes she received from all over the USA, and all over the world, in response to my birthday post about her on October 20th. And I want to thank those of you who sent those wishes via the comments section of my blog.

Wedding day, 1940

After having consulted with me, this waiter at a Mexican restaurant took
Mom for a spin on the dance floor. She was just eighty-five at the time!

Thanks for your time.

  7. Hi! Silver Fox...
Wow...life is strange!...I was worried about shopping for Christmas. But after reading your blog header...that became secondary, because I know that there are more important things in life than shopping for Christmas.

My condolences goes out to you and your family too..."The Fox."

  11. I wish I had something wise to say here...I'm just really sorry for your loss. Based on the Mexico picture, she was a character, and the world doesn't have enough characters.

    Take care of yourself, please.

    p.s.
The birthday greetings blog was a special one...I'm extra glad, now, that she got all those messages. I know you both got a kick out of them.

  20. Well, it's been about 48 hours since I got that phone call. My sister and I have everything as tied up as possible until Mom's actually laid to rest on Wednesday.

Personally, I'm doing as well as can be expected.

Thanks, everybody, for the hugs, condolences, good thoughts, prayers, candle-lightings... all of it. It's meant a lot since I posted my short tribute.

  22. This Time Was Her's

May God bless you and keep you safe.
His angels took your mom to that shining place
Where there is no pain and breathing is sweet.
Where her youth is restored and she gets to meet
All those she loved who have gone before.
She'll be watching you from heaven's shore.

Words can not express how much I wish you and yours love and peace.

May she go to a better place and may you ultimately be reunited.

  28. More thanks, to everybody who's signed in since my last comment.

I'm going to try to put something up for Christmas, although admittedly, I'm not really "feeling" it this year.

  29. very sorry to read about the passing of your mother, especially so close to Christmas. Sounds and looks like she had a wonderful life which is a great blessing. Takes a long while to really wrap your head around the loss of a parent. I miss my father more now, two years after his death, than I did at the time. My mother died in '97 but I still talk to her almost every day. I hope my sons do the same.
