In one form or another, cancer -- a/k/a "the C word," as of right now -- has been taking the lives of every effing celebrity it can get its "hands" on lately! Someone with my currently-limited time for writing can't keep up with the tributes I feel I ought to write.
Larry Gelbart, Patrick Swayze, Mary Travers, and Henry Gibson are just the names I can think of at the moment. If time ever permits, I'll try to do a column or two about some of the above.
What a rotten week it's been!
And now, it's back to the "Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup" illo...
Thanks for your time.

YES.The Reaper Has Been Especially Grim This Week......
ReplyDeleteMary Travers's death yesterday hit home pretty hard for me. I was learning to play guitar at the time when Peter, Paul & Mary were at their peak, so their music was a major part of the soundtrack of my youth. This loss struck pretty close to home!
ReplyDeleteIt's getting to be tough to read the news lately, you know?
Very sad all 'round. And, I'm particularly bummed re: Henry Gibson.
ReplyDeleteit has been a weird season, seeing so many celebrities i grew up watching, or hearing or reading to pass on.
ReplyDeleteOh, THAT C-word. :o
ReplyDeleteWhat did I see, that cancer will happen in 1 in every 2 Americans at some point during their lifetime. 50%. Yikes that's freaking scary.
A sad week, indeed. Pass the soup, please.
ReplyDeleteAdam West, Gene Barry, Dick Van Dyke.
ReplyDeleteAdam West and Dick Van Dyke died??
ReplyDeleteI know all of the names and bios that you listed. It is tough to see these people go.
A Google "news" search says that none of the three listed by the "grim reaper" have died. So what is this, the new Death Pool?
ReplyDeleteHa . .It'll get you in the end. I'm in the middle of a Cancer thing. Three people I know in the same family . .one only 25 years old. Fuck that to Friday! None smoke, imbibe or do any of the 'lifestyle' faux pas associated with the disease but they are all dying, aunt, sister and nephew. WTF? And none are celebrities . . .sorry just shits me to tears.
ReplyDeleteTwo of my friend's parents are dying of it. Jim Caroll is the only one who died of a heart attack. Agh my punk years and dirty dancing years wrapped up in one week.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments on a frustrated but otherwise serious post, folks. And this cold ol' Foxy heart goes out to all of you with whom the subject hit close to home. On my more reflective days, it really bothers me that physicians and/or Big Pharma have solved the "real" problems like hair loss, "crow's feet," breast size, and erectile dysfunction, but hasn't eradicated little annoyances like cancer!
ReplyDeleteThere was a 20/20 or 60 min. Segment where they showed a drug that cured cancer just was too expenive to make. But it worked!
ReplyDeleteHi! Silverfox,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, it's very dishearten to hear about the death of people dying from cancer whether they are a celebrity or non celebrity.
Take care!
DeeDee ;-(
its an awful disease
ReplyDeleteSo the few Asian spammers ruin it for everybody?
ReplyDeleteI won't be able to post anymore with word verification.
I still like you though.
(To me it seems like it would just be easier for you to delete the spammers instead of everyone haveing to do word verification)
I agree with Brian, it has been a weird season. A reality check in a way.
ReplyDeleteIANO: Since I like you, too, ya big lug, I'll let you in on a secret of sorts. I get private emails from people who totally freak out when the spam messages hit. I do delete them, but wish to protect my readers who've signed up for follow-up comment emails, because I'm a kind, fatherly sort of Fox.
ReplyDeleteOr something.
By the way, are you still getting Asian spam comments on your "Ernie Kovacs, Bamboo Prophet" post?
cancer is a bitch that needs no second chance ever!
ReplyDeleteWow, Candie, you just compared cancer to several of my ex-girlfriends!
ReplyDeleteOh that wasn't my intention!LOL
