Forty years ago today, he died.
He was -- arguably -- one of the greatest entertainers ever.
He has been -- inarguably -- one of the biggest influences on music and musicians for roughly sixty years.
And if you doubt that, explain to me why you know whom I'm writing about, although I haven't said his name, and the images above don't show his face.
Thanks for your time... or, rather, "Thankyuhverramuch!"
Elvis left the building for good that day. I know exactly where I was and what I was doing when I learned about his death.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Hm. Strangely enough, I don't recall where I was when I heard the news.
DeleteYep, even people who were not born yet know exactly who you are talking about. He sure has staying power.
ReplyDeleteDamned right!
Deletestill I love Elvis songs !
ReplyDeleteMe, too. (By the way, I do a kick-ass Elvis impersonation, vocally, anyway.)
DeleteAn enduring icon. You should put up a video of the impersonation. Would he be the most impersonated musician ever?
ReplyDeleteHappy to be back here, and that you're talking about a death 40 years ago. That probably means 2017 might just turn out marginally better than last year :)
Nice to see you back. You've missed a lot of contemporary tribute posts, unfortunately. (Unfortunate that these people have died, not necessarily unfortunate that you missed the posts!)
DeleteJohnny Carson once said "If life was fair, Elvis would be alive and the impersonators would be dead."
Thanks for sharing this post!I think the reason why there are so many Elvis sightings is because people want to keep the memory of this iconic American figure alive. I believe the same goes for why there are Elvis impersonators.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree! People just didn't want to believe he could have died, especially so young.
DeleteMissed but never forgotten.
ReplyDeleteNope, never!
