Noel Neill, 1920-2016, R.I.P.

I've been relaxing and doing little online during the past few days, but I post about comics often enough so that few would forgive me if I didn't write about the passing of Noel Neill, best known for playing Lois Lane in the The Adventures of Superman TV series of the 1950s. Ms. Neill had a long and varied career before landing the part of Lois in two Superman movie serials. Actress Phyllis Coates played Lois when Superman got his own series, but when Ms. Coates left the role after one season, Noel Neill again took up the reins.

Ms. Neill was 95. We've lost far too many celebrities lately, but one is heartened somewhat by the fact that she'd lived such a long life.

Thanks for your time.

  1. I seen her passing on a tv news site a few days ago. Nothing wrong with making it to 95.

    1. Nope, nothing at all. Better than some of the others we've lost lately.

  2. I thought that photo looked familiar. For some people, ninety-five is too long. Other people are lively at one hundred. Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances.

  3. Glad to see that she lived to 95 but, you're right, too many have died this year. Gosh, looking at her vixen photo, shows what a beauty she was

  5. Nice tribute! And a nice, long life. I like the picture of her big smile when she's much older as much as I like the "hottie" photo of her earlier years.

    1. In pictures from her later years, she usually has a big grin. She was supposedly very animated and accessible with fans... even those who only called her "Lois" and didn't call her Noel or Miss Neill.

  8. I knew she was still alive ... perhaps kindheartedness keeps you going? Too many nice ones are going. :-(

  9. So pretty and classy and dignified even in the hot photo - a different ilk of artistes altogether in her generation. Great tribute, liked all the photos much.

Ninety five is way better and less heart breaking than twenty something, I'm not sure how old Yelchin was, turns one's brain inside out that one. Too many deaths of late...celebrities and ordinary folk...

  10. I remember her so well from the television show when I was a kid. I don't think I ever actually knew her name. Thanks for bringing back memories.

  11. If I am not mistaken she was also in Superman Returns. I was sad to see that she had passed, but I guess we could all be happy with 95.
