Yep. But of course, the guy was crazy anyway. Even if the clock in the foyer hadn't existed, the detectives would never have heard the beep of a watch buried under several feet of dirt.
On my profile page I list davidzrantz@gmail.com. That gets forwarded to my "real" email address, and when I answer, the email will co me from my private address.
I have some mixed memories about this one. I wrote it as a text piece, which Skip started "adapting" without my initial permission. He wanted to do it as a video, with me doing the narration. Eventually we decided to just do it as a straight comic book story. Then, always thinking 47 steps ahead, Skip decided we should do a graphic novel made up of three modernized stories from Poe, with TTTT published in solo form first, as a sort of teaser for the larger project. He wanted to offer it on Amazon, and did a ton of research, and as he did all this, I put TTTT in script form and he began drawing it. When it was done, he came up with yet another idea. He said that the more "hits" we had on Amazon, the higher we'd end up in their search results. Accordingly, he said we should offer it free to the readers of our blogs, to beef up those "hits." I told him that there wouldn't be enough readers to make a huge difference, but he insisted. After this "free weekend," I said "You realize that everyone who might have paid to read the story has now read it for free, right?" To add insult to injury, if we ever did sell any copies on Amazon, Skip lost the account information. We'll never know!
I strongly urge you to sign up for follow-up comments, because I (usually) reply to your comment! Comments left for me more than three weeks after a post is published will not appear until I approve them, but they will be answered eventually!
haha if only he'd have kept his mouth shut.

DeleteBTW!I thought you forgotten me :)
Forgotten you? Never! :)
DeleteOh well...
DeleteThis was a tremendous nostalgia fix - the telephone, the typewriter, even the windows don't look anything the same now. Thanks for the smiles.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what changes we've seen in the last fifty years.
DeleteHi Silver,
ReplyDeleteI decided to come by and read this again. It really is brilliant and maddening at the same time. He carries the cross of his own insanity.
I have to wonder if you were to rewrite this today, would it be as chilling? Would an apple watch drive him to cut off a limb?
I think it would be the same basic story, and that 10 or 20 years either way wouldn't make a difference.
DeleteI like the story just the way it is!
DeleteThanks! Wonder what Poe would have thought of it.
DeleteI think Poe would have found it delightfully maddening. The story line and artwork is amazing.
DeletePs Sorry ....I was going to email you but, I didn’t see an address.

Janie
Don't we all?
DeleteThis was great! You know the saying, "The guilty flee even though no one pursues."
ReplyDeleteGood job for sure!

DeleteThis one is in my library! Kindle, of course, but still.
