K: King

Here's today's entry in the A-Z Challenge. My theme is "Golden Age Comic Book Characters with the Same Name As Modern-Day Characters."

The King -- a/k/a King Standish -- was a crime-fighting, non-powered millionaire playboy who first appeared in 1940's Flash Comics #3 from National Periodicals (DC).

A new King first appeared -- as far as I could find -- in The King #1 from Jet City Comics, as recently as 2015. I couldn't find much information about him, sorry.

Thanks for your time.

  1. Seems all heroes with no powers are millionaires and look good. Never heard of him either.

    1. I guess being a millionaire is so boring otherwise, you have to fight crime to find any excitement. Yeah, right...

  2. wow, he reminds me of batman kinda. playboy, nonpowered, crimefighter, really rich. don't know his background, but there has to be something dark and sinister in his past to make him want to fight crime.

    1. There were a lot of "bored millionaires" in the 1940s who had nothing better to do than fight crime, it seems. Batman was one of the first, if not the first.

  3. The original King looks more royal. Looks as if you're doing great with the challenge.

  6. I think the king went from playboy to player. LOL The original puts me in mind of Bat Masterson.

    1. There were some female crime-fighters back in the Golden Age, too. Some were actresses, some were socialites.
