Teaser

Just as a little "filler" until I start posting here again, here's a random stack of publications that I've had something to do with:

Oh, wait! Silly me! I only wrote (or partially wrote) three of the four! The British publication resting on top is a little beauty from my private collection! (That's the real reason I scanned it with a bunch of stuff that I did write. I wanted you to know that it's actually something I own, and not just an image I swiped from the internet!)

Here's a better look at one of the weekly magazines Charles Dickens serialized much of his writing in... All the Year Round. So this is kind of a first printing before the first printing, if that makes any sense! (The serialized format inspired the blog you're reading, by the way... although I certainly don't claim to be at the same level of talent as Dickens!) This issue features a segment of my favorite Dickens work, Great Expectations. It's from February 16th, 1861... about two weeks before Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as the 16th President of our country!

I actually own a few of these literary collections -- Charles Dickens is not the only author contained herein -- as well as some issues of this magazine's immediate predecessor, Household Words. And as the saying goes, I just wanted to share that fact with you.

I also wanted to show y'all that I own a lot more than old comic books, y'know?

Thanks for your time.

  1. cool!

I didn't write a goodbye note on the other blog because you said you were keeping this one up. I felt like a heel when everyone else wrote such nice things. I was just trying to show my musical coolness.

  2. Aw shucks! I thought you were gonna post a pic of that skull you have...or the other oddities I like so well. You know the ones...

  3. Sparkle: As cool as a Dick Tracy ring with a secret compartment?

Ishat: "I didn't write a goodbye note on the other blog because you said you were keeping this one up."

Understood. As I said "over there," I didn't die, nor did I stop blogging entirely.

"[E]veryone else wrote such nice things."

Yeah, they did, didn't they? I figured they were saying their good-byes to "David'Z RantZ" more than to me personally. I guess that means that these two blogs have their own personalities, for lack of a better way of putting it... which is exactly what I wanted for them, from the start. Nice to get those comments after only a year here on Blogger.

"I was just trying to show my musical coolness."

And you did! I figured most people might've guessed where "turn around, bright eyes" came from, but the "jaded, faded mandarin" was a much more obscure line. I wasn't surprised that you nailed 'em both, however.

SubTorp: I assume you mean the bison skull. (No one's supposed to know about the... others.) And some of the items in my collection -- including some you may like -- couldn't be shown here!

  5. I am actually very very impressed by that little piece in your collection. Where did you find it? I have a thing for old books and I usually find the oldest, and the cheapest, in hole in the wall antique places (not at all the high end deals as I am poor as hell...lol) or flea markets and yard sells.

I strongly urge you to sign up for follow-up comments, because I (usually) reply to your comment! Comments left for me more than three weeks after a post is published will not appear until I approve them, but they will be answered eventually!
